Telford Printers Show Support For Macmillan

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

The Telford printers Graphics and Print take their commitment to the community very seriously and have already engaged in eight activities already this year to help support charities and disadvantaged people to having a better life. Help for Heroes, Comic Relief, Mustard Tree, St Georges Crypt and March 100 have all benefited from the generosity and support shown by the Graphics and Print team so far this year but hot on the heels of sponsoring Donna Smith to run the London marathon on behalf of Ovarian Cancer Action, the award winning Telford Printers have just embarked on a further sponsorship of Shrewsbury based Jason Alvis, who ran the Chester Half Marathon on the 12th May, on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Managing Director Martin Kells, is delighted at the community commitment shown by his team at Graphics and Print and believes this support is more important than ever: “We all know that the recession is hitting hard and people don’t have the same amount of money or time to throw into community activities and charitable donations as maybe they did a few years ago but this is exactly the reason we have been passionate about accelerating our activities in 2013. Charities need help more than ever before as they see a reduction in donations from people who just can’t afford to pay the bills for themselves let alone provide charitable donations, so we decided to double our efforts in 2013 to help as many charities as possible. By way of one example, four charities have just benefited to the tune of £800 from our Fantasy Football League competition which finished earlier this month. Fibromyalgia Association UK, The British Heart Foundation, Faith In Families and Tommy’s all received donations as a result of the winning individuals choosing these organisations as their chosen charities. So our sponsorship of Jason Alvis was merely the next in a long line of activities we already have planned for 2013, to ensure we keep up our commitment that every one of our employees will spend a minimum of two days a year, during work time, supporting great causes. Frighteningly, one in three of us will get cancer and will need the support of great organisations like Macmillan, who aim to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. We are really proud of Jason. It was his first ever half marathon and he really took a step into the unknown because he had never run this distance before. His time of 1 hour 55 minutes is something to be proud of. Well done Jason and keep up the great work for Macmillan.”

Barnshaw Section Benders have just supplied a curved pipe that formed the stem of a flower design in the Chelsea Flower Show starting on 21st May.

Chelsea Flower Show is attended by the royal family on opening day every year as it is one of the biggest and most prestigious flower shows in the UK and has been held in Chelsea since 1913. The show features innovative outdoor living areas and garden ideas to try at home.

Barnshaws was awarded with this creative project due to the benders’ innovative recommendation to have the pipe induction bent to benefit from minimum ovality.

Matt Lanter Talks 90210 Series Finale, New Show Star-Crossed

Monday, May 13th, 2013

When The CW decided to cancel 90210 after five seasons in March, writers were under pressure to rework the final episode (airing Monday, May 13 at 8 p.m. EST). Series star Matt Lanter, who plays reformed bad boy Liam Court, reveals what viewers can expect from the series finale and shares his post-90210 career plans with Just Jared.

“The plan was, if we had come back for Season 6, we were going to be set five years into the future,” Lanter explains. “It was really cool, but last minute, we got the call that we needed to change things.”

The cast had already done a final table read before getting the news that 90210 would be ending after 114 episodes. Lanter and his costars were excited about what writers had in store for their characters had the show been renewed for a sixth season.

“We were all five years older and obviously at much different places in our lives. My character, I was just getting out of jail,” says Lanter, whose character was framed for a bombing in the May 6 episode. “It was really cool. We were talking about changing looks and everything — buzzing my hair, all kinds of crazy stuff.”

Following the cancelation news, the script was rewritten to give the characters a proper goodbye. “I hope fans are going to be happy with that,” the 30-year-old says. “It was kind of abrupt for all of us, but we did what we could with it.”

Lanter hints that Liam and Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) may rekindle their romance in the series finale. “Without trying to give away too much, I feel like there is happiness in their lives in some way,” he says. “People should definitely tune in, especially fans of Liam and Annie. There is a payoff.”

The engaged actor calls his last days on set “bittersweet” and says the cast became like a family. “It’s very odd to go to work the last day knowing you’re never going to go back,” the Ohio native admits. “I feel blessed for the opportunity to have been with a show for five years. I had an incredible time, I met great people and I had some amazing experiences. I am forever grateful for that.”

When production wrapped, the cast and crew were invited to buy set pieces during a warehouse sale. “I got a bunch of my wardrobe, which is kind of cool — some cool jackets, shoes, and stuff like that,” Lanter says. “I got some other crazy stuff from the set, and it was really cheap, too!”

Luckily, Lanter will be back on The CW this fall in Star-Crossed (opposite Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden). “The logline is basically like Brown vs. the Board of Education with aliens, mixed with an epic romance,” Lanter tells Just Jared. “It’s really cool.”

The series finale of 90210 airs Monday, May 13, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.

Video appears to show deadly plane crash at Bagram Air Field

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Shocking new video appears to show the fiery crash Monday of a civilian cargo plane at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.

The American-owned plane bound for Dubai crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all seven people on board, according to the U.S.-led military coalition.

In the video, which military sources tell Fox News may have been taken from the dashboard camera of a servicemember, the Boeing 747-400 takes off, then appears suspended in the air for a moment before turning and nose-diving into the ground, erupting into a cloud of smoke and flames.

The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility for downing the plane, but NATO said in a statement to The Associated Press that the Taliban “claims are false.” The coalition says the cause of the crash was being investigated, but there was no sign of insurgent activity in the area at the time.

Capt. Luca Carniel, a coalition spokesman, said the aircraft crashed from a low altitude right after takeoff.

The plane — owned by National Airlines, an Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary of National Air Cargo — was carrying vehicles and other cargo, according to National Air Cargo Vice President Shirley Kaufman. She said those killed were four pilots, two mechanics and a load master, who was responsible for making sure that the weight and balance of the cargo is appropriate.

Five of the seven fatalities were from Michigan, said Kaufman.

Fox 2 reports one of the victims has been identified as Brad Hasler, a Michigan father of two whose wife is pregnant.

“Yesterday morning our family learned of the terrible tragedy that occurred at Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, and that Brad was among the crew members who perished. Brad was a wonderful father to two young children, a beloved husband to a wife who is expecting another child, a loving son, and the most loyal and supportive brother I could have ever asked for,” Hasler’s brother, Bill, wrote in a statement released Tuesday.

The identities of the other passengers have not yet been revealed.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority are investigating the crash, according to The Associated Press.

National Airlines was based until recently at Michigan’s Willow Run Airport, west of Detroit in Wayne County’s Van Buren Township. It carries cargo both commercially and for the military, Kaufman said. She said it employs about 225 people.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Ireland Baldwin Looks Incredible in Front Row at Fashion Show

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Ireland is ready to take over America! Ireland Baldwin, the 17-year-old daughter of Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger, recently signed with the IMG modeling agency. Although she hasn’t yet made her runway or magazine debut, the statuesque blonde is already making a name for herself. On Tuesday April 2, Ireland more than held her own sitting in the front row at the Jeffrey Fashion Cares 10th Anniversary fashion show in NYC.

PHOTOS: Love lives of models

Flanked by two glamourous, established stars — actress Emmy Rossum to her right, fellow model Chrissy Teigen to her left — Baldwin was the spitting image of her mom Basinger, 59, who was an established model herself before moving on the acting. With her blonde hair in a messy, stylish side braid, Baldwin wore a black blazer and a short black minidress, showing off her long legs in strappy heels.

NBC’s ‘Today’ show exposed: Article shares ugly details of NBC’s ratings struggle

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

NBC’s “Today” show drama reads like a novel. With plot twists and turns and secret villains, New York Magazine dissects the downfall of the “Today” show, providing sordid new details about the ousting of Ann Curry and NBC’s efforts to rebuild. Here are the 10 ugliest revelations from the NY Mag cover story:

1. Bullying Ann
The article paints a tough behind-the-scenes experience for veteran reporter Ann Curry before she even landed her coveted—and short lived—seat on the “Today” show couch.

“In the past, [former ‘Today’ host Katie] Couric would sometimes tease her about her clothes, remarks that Curry took badly. When Lauer and ‘Today’ producers tried to ‘punk’ the rest of the cast one morning… Curry was infuriated with Lauer and retreated to her dressing room. Roker, her longtime friend, was sent to comfort her.”

2. Curry was unprepared
When talks began about ending Curry’s hosting gig on “Today,” she was reportedly caught off guard and not equipped with a proper lawyer and agent to negotiate for her.

“Curry, without an agent, was doing her own bargaining…. Lauer began to do damage control. Over lunch at The Four Seasons, he advised Curry to get an agent so she could resolve her situation and openly worried that the timing of her exit would lead people to believe he’d forced her out during his contract negotiation.”

3. NBC staff not fooled
But Lauer lending Curry a helping hand at the last moment was perceived to be a last-ditch effort to save his own reputation, and even the NBC staff wasn’t buying it.

“Everybody at NBC, everybody at the ‘Today’ show, everybody understood that Ann was kicked out of her position because Matt didn’t want her there,” says a prominent NBC staffer. “That’s why it was so personal between Ann and Matt.”

4. That fateful day
Once Curry knew her days at “Today” were done, she took control of the situation. In a move NBC now likely regrets, they let Curry write her own last lines.

“Curry wrote her own copy, telling [execs] she wanted to ‘speak from the heart.’ That same night, Lauer called in to ask, ‘So when am I taking my cyanide pill tomorrow?’”

5. Holding grudges
After her uncomfortable departure, Curry wasn’t ready to kiss and make up with her former co-host. The tension between Lauer and Curry continued and played out awkwardly.

“In late July, when Curry was assigned to cover the shootings in Aurora, Colorado, she refused to appear on the air with [new host Savannah] Guthrie, believing [producer Jim] Bell was trying to exploit the event for image repair.”

6. NBC’s paranoia
NBC was supposedly so concerned about its image, execs barred Curry from sending an ailing “Good Morning America” host her well wishes.

“When Robin Roberts left ‘Good Morning America’ a month later to get treatment for MDS, Curry asked NBC if she could tweet a note of sympathy for the ABC co-host. NBC said no, afraid she was trying to aid the enemy.”

7. Love for Al Roker
Following Lauer’s tense response to Curry’s ousting, and Al Roker’s seemingly obvious on-air jab at the network for “throwing her under the bus,” viewers gravitated to the bubbly weatherman. Researchers for NBC discovered Roker was quickly gaining a bigger fan base, and subsequently decided to lend him more air time.

“’People told us, ‘I love that Al Roker,’ [producer Alexandra] Wallace told New York mag. ‘So they’re getting more Al Roker. It’s not an anti-Matt thing at all.’”

8. Making it look easy
Since “Good Morning America” has been beating the “Today” show in the ratings, NBC has been carefully trying to make their on-air interviews appear effortless and flawless. The article describes a morning where Matt Lauer seemingly breezily interviews Martha Stewart on live TV.

“But the interview isn’t as tough as it appears. The questions he asks are the ones Stewart was prepared for, and both Lauer and Stewart benefit from the appearance of a sharp exchange.”

9. More changes on the way
And NBC is by no means done doing damage control. The network is working to reshape the show’s image with more upbeat, feel-good stories.

“This summer, ‘Today’ will have a brighter, warmer set, getting away from the smoked-glass-and-taupe stage it has now, which Wallace acknowledged was too ‘cool.’”

10. Backup plan
But if that doesn’t work, or if Lauer decides to ditch the floundering show, network execs reportedly have some contingency plans.

“NBC News executives have already had conversations about who might fill ¬Lauer’s seat if and when he leaves, and there is indeed informed speculation inside NBC that Lauer could leave within the year. -MSNBC’s Willie Geist, the Morning Joe anchor who also appears in the third hour of ‘Today,’ is often mentioned as a replacement, but so are others, including Good Morning America’s Josh Elliott.”
