Darius Rucker Slams Racist Tweet: “Is This 2013 or 1913?”

Darius Rucker is fighting back — and with good cause. The country singer has responded to a racist tweet that was sent his way after he covered Bob Dylan‘s “Wagon Wheel” at the Grand Ole Opry on Sunday, May 19.

A Twitter user wrote to the “True Believers” singer, who is African-American: “Leave country to the white folk.” 

The former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman re-tweeted the comment and wrote back, “WOW. Is this 2013 or 1913? I’ll take my grand ole Opry membership and leave your racism. Wow.”

As fans quickly tweeted their support to Rucker, he assured everyone that the racist comment wouldn’t get the best of him.

“Gotta go to bed this has been hilarious tonight,” he wrote. “If any hater thinks I care what u think. I don’t make music for u. So don’t listen.”

In the past, Rucker, 47, has been vocal about dealing with racism throughout his life.

“I grew up in South Carolina my whole life and not that South Carolina is any more racist than New York City but I experienced it a lot,” he told ABC News in 2000. “The funny thing is that people think a lot of Americans don’t think this is true, but I experience racism almost every day.”

Asked how people can change the perception towards minorities, he responded, “We have to as a country all step up to it and say what’s wrong and tell people I don’t feel that way and don’t talk that way around me.”

Rucker’s True Believers album was released on May 21. He moved from rock to country in 2008 with the release of his Learn to Live album.

The third party car insurance would cost more this year

Government of India has proposed about 85 per cent hike in insurance premium for motor vehicles. This will be applicable for vehicles less than 1000 cc motors. The third party Motor Insurance is now all set to get costlier soon. This is with respect to the endorsement by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA). It has proposed a considerable hike in the premium payable. The recent revision in premium price will soon hit the entry-level segment for cars with engines below 1000 cc. This is known to be the hardest on because the increase in the cover was initially proposed as 85 per cent.

The 1,000 – 1,500 cc car segment will soon experience the minimum increase. This is amounts only 1.4 percent. Now the vehicles over 1,500 cc segment will experience an increase of about 43 per cent in premium.

“The maximum increase has also been recommended for the entry-level segment. This is because the increase of incidences related to accidents is very high. The first time motor drivers were more involved in the mishaps” confirmed Insurance Experts.

Third party car insurance plan is different from own damage insurance. This is because it is mandatory for all vehicles regardless of the nature of usage (private or commercial). The plan actually covers claims of third party victims.

“This recent hike proposed by the government of India is a step towards increase in accidents on road and number of claims made by insurance buyers. This has led to losses to the Car Insurance industry. Hence, to overcome the losses, the insurance regulatory in India has decided to increase premium for third party insurance (the mandatory plan)” confirmed Insurance Experts.
Higher premiums will definitely cover losses in the car insurance segment in India. According to some sources, a sharp increase in personal damage insurance will also be announced soon.

The Iron Man 3 actress came under fire this past week after walking the red carpet premiere for her new action flick in a revealing Antonio Berardi dress on Wednesday, Apr. 24. But, according to her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman, Paltrow never looked better. 

“Not only was it our first choice, it’s [also] beautiful, it’s cool, it’s daring in a no-daring way. Nonthreatening. Elegant,” Saltzman told Us Weekly of Paltrow’s gown, which featured a sheer side panel that revealed the entire length of her leg, from hip to toe. “It looked great on her … it showed off her body. It’s spirit without being vulgar.”

Saltzman also pointed out that Paltrow wasn’t wearing the gown to nab attention — rather, the Goop founder was only “having fun” with the outfit and showing off her healthy, toned body.

“The point is that this girl has taste, this girl has confidence,” the stylist told Us. “And she’s not flaunting anything but the hard work that she’s put into being a happy body, happy person, healthy person. You don’t see a whole lot of false fakeness going on there like some other people. She’s always classic with a twist, classic with an edge.”

The 40-year-old actress sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show on Friday, Apr. 26, and admitted that she was a bit “humiliated” by the bad press the outfit had garnered. Especially, she shared, because she had a little “disaster” just prior to the red carpet reveal.

The Fight Time Promotions Lightweight Champion Vagner Rocha will defend his title for the first time against JP Reese.

In honor of that exciting news, the morning show team submitted themselves to a lightning round of “Know Your Baby,” in which Dreyer quizzed Wolfe plus Hill and Holt, both already parents, on the art of baby-rearing.

The competition will be open for two days over the Easter weekend, on Sunday 31 March and 1 April. Entrants need to simply register to enter and five lucky winners will be chosen at random.
