Gwyneth Paltrow Praises Met Gala in Goop a Week After Bashing It

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

Oh, never mind! Gwyneth Paltrow — who very publicly dissed the May 6 Met Gala, telling USA Today, “I’m never going again” — has devoted her latest issue of goop to, yes, the Met Gala.

“The Met Ball, at NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, is always the year’s most elaborate display of incredible fashion and this year was no different,” the actress writes. She then goes on to describe in detail just how her custom fuchsia Valentino Haute Couture dress, featuring a sheer panel just above the chest, was created. (For the record, it took two fittings plus last-minute, day-of alterations to get just the right look.)

PHOTOS: See all the dresses from the Met Gala!

Her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman also chimes in to explain her rationale behind the dress selection: “In thinking about what Gwyneth could wear, I didn’t want her to show up in a costume. So this look is all about anarchy — truly going against the grain and not wearing what everyone expects. That’s about as punk as you can get.”

In a post-Met Gala interview with Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O, Paltrow, 40, complained about the event’s dress code: “I think we’re all a bit old to dress up punk,” she said by way of explaining her more conservative attire. “I just went as kind of normal.” (Her former bestie, Madonna, 54, on the other hand, went all-out in a racy fishnet body stocking, a studded jacket, and hot pink pumps.)

In the latest goop issue, the Oscar-winning actress also shares her favorite looks from the night, and true to her word, none were costume-y. Paltrow picked Carey Mulligan, in a black Balenciaga cutout dress, model Cara Delevigne, in a black Burberry gown with plunging neckline, and Miranda Kerr, in a revealing Michael Kors cutout number, as best-dressed.

Home-runs, all of them! The four stars selected for this week’s Look of the Week all hit it out of the ballpark when it comes to their red carpet ensembles.

Selena Gomez was a gorgeous lady in red at the March 14 premiere of her new controversial movie Spring Breakers in Hollywood. The Disney graduate wore a glamorous, flowing, scarlet Reem Acra gown with beaded illusion panels. Drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz completed the ensemble. The sophisticated dress was a big departure from the 23-year-old actress’ bikini-clad Spring Breakers look.

PHOTOS: Selea Gomez’s sexy style

Girls star Allison Williams, 24, arrived for her interview with The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Show in NYC on March 12 in a fetching, black, fit and flair Red Valentino dress with scalloped edges. The star often opts for more conservative and mature outfits, but this dress is a nice balance of modesty and youthfulness.

The always stunning Zoe Saldana hit The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo 25 Most Powerful Stylists Luncheon on March 13 in West Hollywood in a chic, ready-for-spring red and white toile Carven dress with cutouts at the waist. Jimmy Choo ankle-tie sandals with tassels finished the look. The actress was on hand to support her stylist Petra Flannery, one of the luncheon’s honorees.

Olivia Wilde, meanwhile, must have made her stylist proud when she showed up on the red carpet of her new movie The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, on March 11 in Hollywood, in a shimmering black Gucci Gown with an illusion panel and embroidered neckline.

Nell McAndrew gives Climate Week a bump – Pregnant model and parent groups campaign to protect the planet for the next generation

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

Press release embargoed for 00.01am on 04.03.13

Parenting organisations and celebrities are backing a new campaign, Climate Week – Protect the Future, for parents to protect their children’s future by helping to prevent climate change.

The campaign launches today as part of Climate Week (4-10 March), Britain’s biggest environmental occasion, with over half a million people expected to attend 3,000 events across the UK. Supporters include Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and the Prime Minister, David Cameron.

Another supporter, model, fitness guru and mother Nell McAndrew, eight months pregnant, had the words “protect the future” written on her baby bump. She said “Becoming a parent makes you realise how important it is to protect the planet for future generations, and that’s why I’m supporting Climate Week.”

Pregnant campaign supporter Vanessa Doman had her bump painted as a globe damaged by oil, showing that to safeguard the next generation from climate change we must use less fossil fuel.

New research1 for Climate Week by Ipsos MORI shows that parenthood is a powerful trigger for concern about green issues – 66% of mothers and fathers said that becoming a parent made them feel more strongly about protecting the environment. Climate Week – Protect the Future is backed by the UK’s largest charity for parents, NCT, and by Family Lives, a charity which helps over a million children each year.

Belinda Phipps, Chief Executive of NCT said: “Having a baby makes you re-evaluate your priorities and realise that for the sake of their future we need to look after the planet we rely on now. Climate Week is a great opportunity to make some small changes which could make a huge difference.”

People can publicise the campaign by taking a photo of themselves displaying the words “Climate Week – Protect the Future” and making it their Facebook or Twitter photo during Climate Week.

Kevin Steele, Chief Executive of Climate Week said: “The campaigning of parents during Climate Week is helping it to be Britain’s biggest climate change campaign – an occasion when everyone can explore ways to live and work more sustainably.”

There are lots of other Climate Week activities – for example for schools, workplaces and community groups. People can take part in Britain’s biggest environmental competition, the Climate Week Challenge. They can also run a Climate Week Swap event for people to exchange clothes and children’s toys they no longer want for great stuff that they do. Rihanna Debuts River Island, Her New Clothing Line, at London Fashion Week

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

Rihanna took London fashion week by storm on Saturday, debuting her collection for UK high street brand River Island at a fashion show/rager at the massive Old Sorting Office on New Oxford street.

In lieu of a typical runway show, the brand and starlet elected to have an industrial-looking stage on which models posed on different platforms. It was more akin to a concert than a fashion show — which was perfect for a collection that was all about Rihanna, the person and style icon, rather than Rihanna the designer.

Indeed, many of the pieces seemed to be inspired right out of Rihanna’s pre-existing wardrobe. Which, of course, is what everyone wanted. From the knitted maxi dress with thigh-high slit, to the fitted shift dresses, and crop top and underwear combo outfits, you’ll certainly need Rihanna-style confidence (and a Rihanna body) to pull it off.

It’s no wonder the collection read so distinctly Rihanna: The starlet was on-hand backstage to help style the collection and give the final okay before the models went on stage. Just watch.

Rihanna Attacked by Angry Fan Over Chris Brown Reunion During London Fashion Week

Monday, February 18th, 2013

Rihanna may have been snuggling up to beau Chris Brown at the Grammys earlier this month and ignoring him just a few days later, but one thing’s for certain: the “Stay” singer’s fans aren’t too happy about their hot-and-cold relationship.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Barbados songstress was enjoying a night out on the town in London with some pals at hotspot The Box when someone reportedly threw a bottle of Lucozade — a British energy drink — in her general direction.

According to reports, the culprit also screamed at the singer about her relationship with Brown, 23.

Rihanna was left with a bloodied right knee that photographers caught just as she left the club at the end of the night.

But the singer didn’t seem too fazed by the angry clubgoer’s antics. Early Sunday morning, she took to Twitter to address another bizarre incident — the UK’s Sunday Times paper ran a teaser at the top of its page likening Rihanna to their beloved, late Princess Diana.

“Just so happens I came home drunk to this in a pile of papers outside my hotel room!” she wrote alongside a photo of the front page that she shared with fans. “My lil Bajan behind, never thought these many people would even know my name, now it’s next to Princess Diana’s on the front of a newspaper!”

“Life can be such a beautiful thing when you let it be #yourejealous,” she continued.
